Harley Buczkowski is an accomplished and dedicated special education teacher who has made an indelible mark through a blend of athletic excellence, academic achievement, and heartfelt advocacy for individuals with disabilities. Harley’s journey spans from the rural tranquility of Upstate New York farmlands to the energetic corridors of schools and athletic arenas. Known for her resilience, compassion, and commitment, Harley stands out as a passionate educator, a decorated athlete, and a driven lifelong learner.

Harley Buczkowski’s formative years were spent in Upstate New York, growing up on a farm that instilled in her both a deep appreciation for nature and a robust work ethic. Raised primarily by a close-knit family comprising her mother, stepfather, and especially her grandparents, Harley attributes her values of kindness and hard work to their early guidance. Her childhood was characterized by outdoor adventures, sporting activities, and hands-on tasks around the farm, forming the foundation of her energetic and resilient personality.

Harley embraced life as a tomboy, thriving on both the discipline required by farm chores and the joyful freedom found in sports. Drawing from her multi-generational upbringing, these early influences set the tone for her later pursuits—both personally and professionally.

Education became both a platform and a passion for Harley. She attended a small high school, excelling as both a cheerleader and an outstanding member of the track and field team. A thrower by specialty, Harley garnered numerous track awards and was voted 'Most Community Spirit' and 'Senior Athlete of the Year,' distinctions that highlighted her athletic prowess and commitment to her peers.

Post-high school, Harley’s athletic journey continued at the junior college (JUCO) level, where she emerged as a national runner-up in the hammer and shot put and contributed to a team national championship victory. Despite a serious injury caused by inadequate coaching, Harley’s determination shone through. Transferring to a Division III college, she rebuilt her abilities under a coach who believed in her potential, eventually achieving her college’s highest athletic distinction. Harley secured multiple event victories, regional team recognitions, and a 14th place finish in the D3 Indoor National Championships.

Academically, Harley began studying athletic training before switching to coaching and sports studies, later advancing to graduate studies in sports administration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her work as a teaching assistant sparked a powerful interest in special education. She subsequently earned a second master’s degree in special education, became a certified K-12 Special Education Teacher, and worked concurrently as a facility manager for a hockey arena and as a direct support professional for her cousin with autism. Now, Harley has made her mark as a special education teacher for more than three years, continuing her service as a mentor and advocate for students with disabilities.

Harley is recognized not only for her career accomplishments but also for her wide-ranging talents and interests. Among her unique skills, she is an exceptional cook, a passion she gladly shares and which she considers as a potential alternative career path to teaching. Outside of work, Harley continues to contribute to her community, notably through direct support and mentorship roles for individuals with disabilities.

Her experience helping her cousin with autism deeply influenced her decision to pursue special education, fostering her creative approach to teaching and advocacy. Harley’s story is also one of perseverance, overcoming injuries and academic challenges to stand out as a first-generation college and double master’s degree graduate in her immediate family.

Harley’s life is enriched by a strong and supportive circle of loved ones. Her family—especially her mother, stepfather, grandparents—and her fiancé have been central figures throughout her journey. Harley met her fiancé at a college party, and their relationship has spanned over eight years, rooted in mutual support, growth, and companionship. The unwavering dedication of her family, combined with the love and partnership of her fiancé, have provided her with the encouragement and balance necessary to achieve both personal and professional fulfillment.
