Marc Meinke was born in Semarang, Indonesia, to a mother from Indonesia and a father from West Germany. His upbringing was shaped by a fusion of cultures and a spirit of adventure. Marc’s early childhood was defined by extensive travel throughout Indonesia, a result of his parents’ various business ventures. His father’s side started a shoe factory in Indonesia, while his mother managed a furniture trade business with Denmark and China. These experiences gave Marc and his older sister, Gina, a unique perspective on the world, as weekends were spent at the beach and school sometimes took place under banana trees. Growing up in a large house surrounded by a beautiful garden, Marc’s childhood was filled with joy, community, and unforgettable memories—like learning to ride a bike with Gina and neighborhood friends, with play and exploration always at the heart of his early years.

International Beginnings

Marc began his formal education at an international Christian school in Indonesia. The multicultural academic environment provided a strong foundation in English, while exposure to different nationalities deepened his ability to connect across cultures. When Marc was nine years old, the family relocated to Germany, marking a significant transition in his education and personal development.

German Integration

In Germany, Marc faced the formidable challenge of learning German from scratch, adding to his repertoire of English and Indonesian. He completed his German Abitur, demonstrating adaptability and perseverance in a new environment. His academic performance paved the way for further studies and professional training.

Media and Marketing Studies

Marc pursued a dual bachelor’s program in Media and Marketing, balancing his studies with hands-on work at a small marketing agency for three years. It was during this period that Marc honed his creative skills, developed project leadership abilities, and realized his desire to pursue an independent creative career. By taking on increasing responsibility in both study and work settings, Marc laid the groundwork for his future as a freelancer in photography and videography.

Professional Journey

Marc’s entry into photography began through community life—taking photos at church, inspired by a friend. His first professional projects were music videos for emerging artists and image spots for small businesses. An influential early experience was serving as video director and head of press for his school’s Model United Nations, which helped him transition naturally into a professional creative path.

Today, Marc’s portfolio boasts work with globally recognized clients such as Myprotein, McFit, Gold's Gym, Soho House, Music Board, Vogue, Sony, and Ovation Guitars. However, a turning point in his career came in 2025, when he worked on a United Nations project funded by the Global Disability Fund. Covering the Global Disability Summit, where the Berlin Amman Declaration was signed, gave Marc a profound sense of purpose and commitment to accessibility. The experience resonated deeply, as he was reminded of family friends who had children with disabilities, reinforcing his drive to make events and communications inclusive for all.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

As an independent freelancer, Marc has embraced the challenges of business bureaucracy and is continuously searching for new avenues to grow. With each new business year, he explores opportunities for launching companies and experimenting with projects, leveraging both his creative eye and entrepreneurial mindset.

Together with friends in Berlin, he actively develops 'Poetry Meets', a collective and safe space for artists in music, poetry, and dance. What started in small venues has blossomed into bookings for spaces with capacities of up to 1200 people, supporting creative voices citywide.
