Keir Starmer

Keir Starmer is a British politician and former lawyer, best known for serving as the leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition in the United Kingdom since April 2020. Before his political career, he made significant contributions to the field of law as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013. As an MP for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015, Starmer has been a key figure in British politics, particularly focusing on issues related to Brexit, social justice, and the rule of law.

Keir Starmer was born on September 2, 1962, in Southwark, London, England. Raised in Oxted, Surrey, he was one of four siblings in a working-class family. His father worked as a toolmaker, while his mother was a nurse who later suffered from Still's disease, a rare autoimmune condition. His family background was deeply rooted in social justice, with his parents instilling a strong emphasis on education from a young age. Starmer attended Reigate Grammar School during a period when it transitioned from a state school to an independent fee-paying institution.

Keir Starmer's educational journey began at Reigate Grammar School, which became an independent school in 1976. Despite this change, Starmer attended as a scholarship student. He then pursued higher education in law at the University of Leeds, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985. Furthering his legal education, he earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, in 1986, which laid the foundations for his subsequent career in law and politics.

Throughout his career, Keir Starmer has achieved recognition both as a human rights lawyer and a politician. As Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013, he modernized the Crown Prosecution Service and initiated reforms to address the handling of rape and sexual assault cases.
