Paul Reubens is an American actor and comedian recognized for creating the iconic character Pee-wee Herman. Renowned for both comedic and family entertainment, he gained prominence with his stage and television work in the 1980s.

Born as Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York, Reubens was raised in Sarasota, Florida. He grew up in a Jewish family with his father, Milton Rubenfeld, and his mother, Judy Rosen. The Sarasota environment with circus and entertainment influences nurtured his interest in performance from a young age.

Paul Reubens attended Sarasota High School before enrolling in Boston University. He later transferred to the California Institute of the Arts to advance his performance skills. His early comedic training was honed with The Groundlings in Los Angeles.

Reubens is widely recognized for his whimsical humor. Beyond Pee-wee Herman, he has taken on diverse roles in film and television, portraying both comedic and character parts beyond his iconic persona.

Reubens further popularized the character with the film "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and later "Big Top Pee-wee." He continued to explore Pee-wee in various forms, with a notable return in the Netflix film "Pee-wee's Big Holiday" in 2016.
