Victor Emmanuel II
Victor Emmanuel II was the King of Sardinia from 1849 until 1861 and later became the first King of Italy, serving from 1861 until his death in 1878. He is best known for his role in the unification of Italy, a process known as the Risorgimento, which transformed various separate states of the Italian peninsula into a single state under a centralized government. Victor Emmanuel II supported the efforts of key figures such as Count Camillo di Cavour and Giuseppe Garibaldi in achieving Italian unification, and his leadership and vision earned him the title "Father of the Fatherland" in Italy.
